Leadbitter Group Automates WAN Data Replications with RepliWeb, Replaces Localized Tape Backups
RepliWeb Deployment (R-1) accelerates nightly replication of critical construction project data to corporate IT, streamlining business continuity processes and information readiness
Coconut Creek, FL. March 3rd, 2009 - RepliWeb, a leader in application infrastructure software, today announced that Leadbitter, a market leader in both the UK construction and affordable housing sectors, has implemented its RepliWeb Deployment (R-1) to provide automated, guaranteed replication of field-based project data to Leadbitter Group's disaster recovery site.
Each of Leadbitter's major project sites requires a local server installation that runs critical business applications and stores an average of 30 gigabytes of data. Prior to implementing RepliWeb, Leadbitter's disaster recovery strategy relied on non-technical, onsite staff to run nightly tape backups. This arrangement posed a number of unique challenges, from failed or forgotten backup jobs to corrupted media. More importantly, the localized backups provided no practical means to maintain a full up-to-date data set. Leadbitter quickly recognized the need for more centralized approach to their data management needs, prompting them to pursue automated WAN replication.
A big driver for change was the need to optimize IT's time. Said Sam Rendell, Systems Administrator at Leadbitter; "We used to spend up to 10% of our time in the field dealing with IT problems related to local disk to tape backups. Visiting the worksite every time there was an issue was not the best use of our time. We needed to find a solution that could reliably replicate project data across the WAN, allowing us to more effectively address issues remotely."
Leadbitter looked to the automation and reliable WAN transfer capabilities of RepliWeb Deployment (R-1). R-1 allowed Leadbitter to automate nightly replication jobs over the WAN, taking non-IT staff out of the backup process. R-1's unique WAN transfer engine provided an efficient, reliable and secure method to replicate several gigabytes of data without interruption or failure. "R-1 provides us with completely automated data replication solution. We can now ensure that Leadbitter's central IT department receives daily updates of all of our field data. If we need to restore data, we either load it on new hardware here at the corporate office, or we can replicate it back out to the field servers. RepliWeb saves me at least four hours a week on average", said Sam Rendell. "More importantly, it has improved the reliability of our DR processes. This gives us tremendous peace of mind."
