RepliWeb Deployment (R-1) Features

Content & Code Deployment

Deploy complete websites and applications, and manage incremental releases to multiple remote servers. R-1 automates the deployment of time-sensitive content (like IIS 6 / IIS 7, .NET, and COM+ applications), while providing guaranteed delivery, adherence to established security policies, and full reporting features.

IIS Replication

R-1 provides comprehensive or granular deployment of IIS 6 and IIS 7 components including Application Pools, Sites, Virtual Directories and global ISAPI filters. In addition, R-1 manages the deployment of configurations for IIS7 FTP sites. R-1 provides Web Server Administrators with the ability to deploy complete IIS 7 websites and components as one unified deployment process.

Transactional Deployments

R-1’s Transactional Update feature allows for the scheduled release of content in unison throughout a datacenter or web farm. R-1 will replicate content to an off-line location on a server until all updates have been completed – and then execute a “go live” process, publishing content across all servers at the same time. Transactional Update overcomes content inconsistencies when large-scale content changes are required, or lengthy replication processes are necessary.

Rollback

In the event of failure or unintentional publishing, R-1's Rollback feature allows administrators to roll any content, code or IIS configuration change to a previous state. The benefit of the rollback feature over simple file "archiving" is the ability to specify a point in time or iteration of job(s), systematically reversing the effects of previous scheduled or event-driven changes.

Automation, Scheduling & Job Submission

R-1 provides unparalleled deployment automation through extensive scheduling, pre/post replication scripting and the ability to integrate with external applications via an extensive API and CLI. Scheduling options include time/day, real-time, event triggered or run “on-demand” by users. Used in conjunction with R-1’s Web UI (for non-privileged users), this feature allows administrators to assign preconfigured deployment jobs to business owners, alleviating administrative bottlenecks and speeding production timelines.

Web User Interface

The R-1 Web User Interface enables non-privileged users to access, execute and monitor deployment jobs that have been assigned to them by IT. The Web UI alleviates the administrative burden on IT by enabling content owners to manage their own jobs.

Logging and Reporting

Documenting deployment processes is an essential part of IT governance. R-1 logs important deployment data, allowing IT to document data points such as who executed deployments, what files were sent, and when / if jobs were completed. R-1's job-level logging is useful in enforcing best practices and regulatory/quality control requirements. In the event of failure, R-1's detailed report on the end-to-end deployment process can help isolate issues related to access denied errors, permissions denied errors and network timeouts.

Optimized Transfer Engines

Networking environments vary. It’s not uncommon for deployments to be targeted at servers on the same LAN, or to servers on the other side of the world. In order to address diverse network infrastructures, R-1 employs three optimized, proprietary transport engines in order to maintain peak transport efficiency:

  • LAN Transport - engineered for speed and maximum throughput over LAN connections, utilizing multiple concurrent TCP/IP sessions and moving files in parallel.
  • WAN Transport - assures delivery success over WAN connections that suffer from common challenges such as packet loss, latency and time outs. The WAN Transport engine invokes compression, bandwidth control, integrity checks, and more throughout the transfer process.
  • LFA Transport - is a high speed transport engine optimized for the delivery of large, multi-gig files. LFA chunks files and transfers them in parallel sessions to ensure maximum throughput over any type of network. The LFA engine features block level recovery, transparent compression, integrity checks, and more.

Security

Overcome security concerns associated with content deployment, especially over the WAN. RepliWeb Deployment offers the ability to utilize SSL encryption and authentication for all communication during the deployment process. R-1 supports configurable ports, and defines rules and filters for trusted IP addresses, subnets, and users.

This authentication proxy mechanism adds a layer of autonomy to B2B content distribution, enabling hosts that do not trust each other to synchronize massive content stores without divulging anything beyond the machine name or IP address, virtual user, and virtual password.
